If you are like most of the dental professionals we encounter, you strive for excellence. And when it comes to finding equipment, materials, and instruments that can help you achieve this level of quality work and customer service, you need a partner that makes the cut.

This is where Renfert comes in—where innovation meets passion. This month’s key opinion leader (KOL), Amy Varshock, is a denturist extraordinaire who shares our same passion for innovation and excellence.

In our interview, we’ll look at Amy’s knowledge, experience, dedication, words of wisdom about dental safety, and how Renfert products help meet her needs in her clinic.

Get to Know Amy Varshock, LD, DPD, and Renfert KOL

Amy Varshock is a licensed denturist in Washington State, but before she found a passion for dental prosthetics, she worked in the organ donation field procuring corneas, eye tissue, bone tendons, and heart valves.

Prior to that experience, Amy utilized her unique skills working in a funeral home chain where she was responsible for the preparation of bodies for burial viewings. Needless to say, she has extensive experience understanding the human body.

At one point, Amy nearly went into the prosthetic eye industry, but ultimately decided to pursue her interest in dentistry instead. Once she had received her licensure to become a denturist in Washington, Amy moved to Arizona to take advantage of a shortage of licensed denturists in the state. In 2008, she became the first female licensed clinical denturist in Arizona’s history!

Following this experience, Amy worked at a group practice for three years and learned how to run a dental office. It was then that Amy decided to follow her dreams: moving back to Washington to start her own company, Denture Essentials. She quickly opened two practices in two years, and to this day, continues to fit patients for custom-made, high-quality prosthetic teeth. As a licensed clinical denturist, unlike a traditional licensed denturist, Amy has education and experience in pathology, anatomy, pharmacology, reading radiographs, and creating treatment plans for patients.

Our KOL’s Specialty

Amy takes a holistic approach to dental prosthetics. In her own words, she specializes “in making people whole again.” She has helped patients through various stages of cancer survival, patients with cleft palates, as well as those with diabetes-, trauma-, drug abuse-, and bruxism-related tooth loss.

As the population becomes increasingly older, Amy believes the dental prosthetics industry will continue to skyrocket and become even more fundamental to the future of dentistry.

Amy’s Go-To Renfert Products and Why She Loves Them

Amy has trusted Renfert tools and equipment since 2017. The following products are two that she uses daily and highly recommends to other dental professionals:

SYMPRO Automatic Appliance Cleaner

The SYMPRO Automatic Appliance Cleaner allows Amy to provide prophylaxis services for denture wearers. Patients who have splints and orthodontic appliances can also benefit from this system.

The SYMPRO Automatic Appliance Cleaner can help have a positive effect on a patient’s overall health. It also offers a time-saving process for denture and appliance cleaning.

The SILENT TS

The SILENT TS is an extraction unit with a double filter that offers high health protection. The durable collector motor has three times the service life of conventional options.

What Amy appreciates about this unit is the low operating noise. She even checked the decibel level herself and found that the higher the speed, the lower the sound was for this unit.

The Benefits of Renfert’s High Quality Standards

To put it simply, Amy chooses Renfert products because our standards align with hers: We both believe in providing exceptional care for our customers and clients, and we believe in doing so in a safe and sustainable manner.

Take, for example, our SYMPRO Automatic Appliance Cleaner. Amy is such a fan of this product that she wrote an article about it in Inside Dental Technology. In her article, Amy points to the dangers oral bacteria poses to both patients and dental professionals.

For instance, older patients wearing dental prosthetics at night are more at risk of developing life-threatening pneumonia due to oral bacteria on their dentures or appliances.

Similarly, dental professionals who clean these appliances are also exposed to bacteria by using ultrasonic cleaners. Using an ultrasonic cleaner or pumice to clean appliances can make bacteria airborne. Dental professionals risk getting bacteria on their skin or eyes or inhaling them through their noses or lungs. There’s also a risk of cross-contamination because the particles can get on workbenches.

With the SYMPRO cleaner, Amy states that she doesn’t have to worry about contaminating her workbench. At the same time, this cleaner, which utilizes special metal cleaning pins with beveled ends, easily cleans calculus from dental appliances without removing any material or damaging the prosthesis in any way. As she put it in her article, “Renfert's motto is ‘making work easy.’ I think with the SYMPRO, they are also making our work healthier and quieter.”

Why Amy is a Partner of Renfert

Some dentists and denturists purchase our products without choosing to partner with us, but many dental professionals decide to work with us because they know that doing so can greatly benefit their patients and company.

Amy has found that working with Renfert helped expose her to new ideas about neutralizing microbes and better serving those patients whose immune systems are compromised. Because this is her passion, she makes sure to emphasize the importance of the SYMPRO’s special rotational magnet in helping neutralize microbes to her clinical team. With everyone on the same page, she can serve her patients with confidence.
